Surrendering!

“How necessary it is not to attach our problems to Divine Mind, but to unite the Divine Mind with the answer to the problem. This means that we rearrange our thinking in such a way that we permit new ideas to flow in. The ideas, fears and tensions that obstructed this flow are released. The stream flows free again. God is the answer to every human problem.” ~~ Ernest Holmes

Our inquiry this month encourages us to look deeply now that this year is coming to an end and ask ourselves, “What do I need to surrender?” This very statement is key to the visioning process if you are clearing the way for 2026. The actual spiritual practice of visioning is about surrender. Being willing to let go of the old and embrace the way forward is pivotal to our spiritual growth. As we follow our heart and listen intuitively to our next steps, there is that space where we simply walk in trust when we are asked to embrace a ‘wisdom of not knowing’ to discover the new unfolding wisdom. The very question we ask of ourselves is, “What must I let go of in order for the new vision to manifest…and what must I become and embrace?” Of course, there is always the choice to start a new year and resist the change and just cling to the familiar and make it easier on us (sort of because this option often invites frustration and pain). We all have the divine urge within us to evolve and grow. “As our thought is opened and we behold the image of eternity within ourselves, we are changed by this image into a newness of Life. This is accomplished by the Spirit of  God… Releasing the weight of past limiting beliefs and judgments frees us to rise up in faith, which is mental assertion elevated to the plane of realization.” Ernest Holmes

We have many opportunities this month to prepare our way forward and also surrender what is no longer necessary to carry.  Each Sunday service will inspire you to soul search your path. We also have the joy of celebrating the Winter Solstice together and the annual Christmas Eve Service which is filled with joyful music to lift us up. Finally, we want to party together on New Year’s Eve but only until 9:00 p.m.! Check out the details in the newsletter. We have prepared the way for joy-filled days ahead. May your holidays be inspired by love and enriched by connections to others.

 Blue Santa has been a tradition for the Redding Police Department for many years and we are excited to help with this program by donating NEW stuffed animals! The RPD’s Blue Santa Program reaches out to children who may not be receiving gifts this year, finding themselves in the pediatric unit at Mery Medical Center during the holiday, are at home when police respond to a domestic violence call, or have been involved in a car accident. Please bring a NEW stuffed animal to the Center   anytime between Sunday, November 23, to Sunday, December 14, 2025. Let’s fill the front of the Sanctuary with NEW cuddly stuffed animals. We will pour our love into each animal during the Sunday Service before delivering them to RPD. (Kohls often has stuffed animals with an accompanying book for under $10.)

AWAKENING TO ONENESS WITH LIFE MEDITATION

Join me as we awaken more deeply to life by learning and practicing meditation and mindfulness techniques. Open to vibrant presence as we release what no longer serves us, embrace the present moment through the breath, and raise our vibration by inviting gratitude and love more fully into our lives. The teachings I share are based upon the education I received during a two-year meditation and mindfulness certification training led by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. These concepts and practices also come from several years of mediation with a local monk, from a broad variety of books, and from an array of spiritual leaders. I believe there is something meaningful and significant to learn from each experience in life and from opening to a variety of methods and belief systems. My desire is to share my enthusiasm for meditation, and for deepening a connection to All. Some of my goals for this group are that together we will create a sense of deep connection and community. That our meditation group will be a place where each participant will feel safe and accepted. Where there is no one right way, and where kindness and openness are always present. We will learn various tools that can assist in living with more peace and presence in our lives. Some topic examples are:

The Center’s Children's Church provides a wonderful program for children (infants to teens) that focuses on enhancing self-esteem, teaching spiritual principles, and awakening creativity. Different groups are designed to meet the changing needs of young people as they mature. In addition, a nursery for those three and under is available at the 10:00 a.m. service. If you would like to help by serving as a Sunday teacher or teacher assistant with the children, please contact Bonnie at (530) 722-7304.

We request that all parents fill out a registration form and photo release form for their children to make sure that we have updated information for all our students. HATHA YOGA

Traditional Hatha Yoga is an holistic Yogic path, including disciplines, postures (asana), purification procedures (shatkriya), gestures (mudra), breathing (pranayama), and meditation. The Hatha Yoga predominantly practiced in the West consists of mostly asanas understood as physical exercises (postures). It is also recognized as a stress-reducing practice that attempts to balance body and mind. Asanas teach poise, balance, and strength, and are practiced to improve the body’s physical health, and to clear the mind in preparation for meditation. We will continue our usual schedule every Monday and Wednesday as we reenter a routine for our wellbeing. Zoom option will still be available. Please feel free to contact Rev. We honor all faith paths on this day traditionally marked as Christmas Eve. But all of us who celebrate Light and Love from various faith traditions can feel welcomed as we listen to some of the classic songs that bring us a sense of renewal and joy in our memories of Christmas and renew our hope for the future. The best part is celebrating the present moment with each other at this special event! Rev. Sue will share a brief inspirational message as well. Enjoy raising your voice in song. We are  grateful for Gwen Rooker, Judy Preble, and the HeartSangha Choir for all they bring to us to open our hearts. The added joy will be the guest musical artists who will join us.

No one notices anything but an amazing collection of sounds that get us all moving to a divine energy that uplifts us. This is an evening of fellowship that will create itself. Perfect for all levels, chair Yoga is a great way to relax from head to toe without the stress of getting out of your chair. Chair Yoga adapts traditional Yoga poses so they can be done with a chair, making Yoga more accessible for people who cannot stand or lay down for long periods. Regardless of your age or what condition you are in, you can experience the health benefits of Chair Yoga. Please Note: In order to attend Chair Yoga, you must have received the newest Covid booster shot. This is because many of the attendees are elderly and some are already dealing with long-term Covid. Mel Jackson has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and has been teaching both public and private classes for decades. He is currently teaching a class to the homeless held at the shelter and guiding them on how to express their own interpretations of life through watercolor.

Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or are interested in advancing your watercolor skills, come and join in on the fun in the 10-week class. Let your inner wisdom and creativity shine through in this unique form of self-expression.

Please bring a palette of watercolor paints, watercolor paper or canvas, brushes, and a notebook and pen for taking notes.

Join us for a heartfelt, experiential journey into the life-changing wisdom of Ram Dass (1931–2019). Using his beloved classi,c Be Here Now, as our primary guide, we will dive deep into the core teachings that have touched millions: conscious aging, loving awareness, karma yoga, death and dying, awakening the heart, and the art of simply being present. Each week we will read and discuss passages from the book, share personal reflections, and explore how these timeless truths apply to our own lives in 2026 and beyond.

Your instructor met Ram Dass (then still Dr. Richard Alpert) at age 12 and will share rarely heard, first-hand stories of the warm friendship his family enjoyed with him from the mid-1960s well into the 1970s. We’ll also enrich our time together with carefully chosen short video and audio clips, occasional guest teachers who studied with him, podcast excerpts, and gentle experiential practices drawn from his teachings.  .

Whether you are brand-new to Ram Dass or a longtime lover of Be Here Now, this class offers both an inspiring overview of his essential message and a supportive space to integrate these teachings into daily life. You are invited to sing, speak, or play your tune, poetry, stories, songs, or comedy, at the Center’s open mic night. These can be your own compositions or pieces that speak to you. Shems will be your host. Share who you are with the rest of us, knowing you are supported and encouraged to be your true self for the world to see and hear. Come and listen, being open to a completely different point of view, encouraging, with your clapping, the sincerely gifted members of our Redding community. The audience is what makes it risky and real! A chance to be all that we can be! Arrive a few minutes early to sign up for mic time.
