This quote inspires the direction we take this month in exploring the topic of “Becoming.”  Mark Nepo is an incredible author, and his insights come from the heart of his experiences. Spring is here and we get to enjoy the Easter Renewal Service together to start the month off. We recommit personally to our reflections of renewal and transformation. I find it rather synchronistic that our ministerial candidate, Rev. Lisa Carson, shows up this month as we explore the art of becoming. (4/19) Then sharing time with Rev. Dr. Andrea Asebedo who was one of the founding ministers of our Center at the end of the month (4/26). We get to enjoy the full circle of experience she has lived since she recently retired from Bellingham CSL. We have deep-hearted spiritual messages to help shape our consciousness into the Truths we long to align with. Still though we remain open at the top because our spiritual   journey is one of appreciating the Presence forever fulfilling our days with love and purpose. We keep growing wiser and kinder!

HATHA YOGA

Traditional Hatha Yoga is a holistic Yogic path, including disciplines, postures (asana), purification procedures (shatkriya), gestures (mudra), breathing (pranayama), and meditation. The Hatha Yoga predominantly practiced in the West consists of mostly asanas understood as physical exercises (postures). It is also recognized as a stress-reducing practice that attempts to balance body and mind. Asanas teach poise, balance, and strength, and are practiced to improve the body’s physical health, and to clear the mind in preparation for meditation. We will continue our usual schedule every Monday and Wednesday as we reenter a routine for our wellbeing. Zoom option will still be available. Please feel free to contact Rev. The Center’s Children's Church provides a wonderful program for children (infants to teens) that focuses on enhancing self-esteem, teaching spiritual principles, and awakening creativity. Different groups are designed to meet the changing needs of young people as they mature. In addition, a nursery for those three and under is available at the 10:00 a.m. service. If you would like to help by serving as a Sunday teacher or teacher assistant with the children, please contact Bonnie at (530) 722-7304.

Join me as we awaken more deeply to life by learning and practicing meditation and mindfulness techniques. Open to vibrant presence as we release what no longer serves us, embrace the present moment through the breath, and raise our vibration by inviting gratitude and love more fully into our lives. The teachings I share are based upon the education I received during a two-year meditation and mindfulness certification training led by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. These concepts and practices also come from several years of mediation with a local monk, from a broad variety of books, and from an array of spiritual leaders. I believe there is something meaningful and significant to learn from each experience in life and from opening to a variety of methods and belief systems. Please reserve Sunday, April 19, 2026, to attend the service and a workshop following the service to listen and get to know Rev. Lisa Carson, a candidate for Senior Minister at CSL Redding. As you are aware of by now, Rev. Sue is retiring at the end of June. Rev. Lisa Carson is a dynamic minister who currently is serving a Center for Spiritual Living Focus Ministry she created called “Enlighten Up.” She developed this ministry believing that by shifting one’s perspective through laughter and joy, we can help heal and create far better lives for ourselves and for the world.

Rev. Lisa grew up in Chico, California, graduating from Chico State University. She became a High School Social Studies Teacher, teaching both locally and internationally. A deeper calling ensued, leading her to a  becoming a minister in 2004. She was ordained through the Center’s for Spiritual Living in 2018. Rev. Lisa’s  experiences have included being a staff minister at CSL Sacramento, Assistant Minister at CSL Chico, and a Senior Minister for CSL Thailand. Holding workshops and speaking at Centers throughout the world, she is deeply grateful to be able to share this powerful teaching with diverse cultures and populations. She fosters interfaith cooperation and community growth. Rev. Lisa excels in public speaking and sharing spiritual     guidance, having led mindfulness workshops worldwide. One of her gifts is in outreach to enhance community engagement. Rev. Lisa also served as Youth and Family Director, Assistant Minister 2015-2019 at CSL Chico which focused on children’s spiritual growth. Besides the many workshops she has created, she has also taught various accredited and non-accredited classes for CSL, officiated weddings and memorials.

In this workshop, we will explore how to follow those “WOW” moments to navigate through life and allow us to feel more fully alive.

Rev. Lisa will share a technique that she learned in Thailand at a Buddhist monastery. It will be interactive, allowing participants to connect more deeply. Learn how to discover the compass points that direct and guide us. They are surprisingly simple, when we honor the voice within, living with appreciation for the simple things and realizing the powerful impact of our energy.

PLANTS AND BULBS SALE

April 26 through May 10, 2026

This has become a popular fundraiser for the community. We share the starters, plants, and bulbs from our gardens and homes as Spring       encourages us to do so. Please bag your bulbs in a quantity for sale and label them so we can stay organized. If you know a plant or bulb needs special care, please provide that  information. Please bring your items in the week before the sale.

POTLUCK SUNDAY

Did you know the fourth Sunday of each month is Potluck Sunday? What does that mean? It means that you’re invited to bring a friend (or two) with you to the service that Sunday at 10:00 a.m. You’re also invited to bring a potluck dish to share in the Social Hall after the service is over. It’s a wonderful way to widen your circle of friends and let people know about our Center. We hope you and your friends will join us for Potluck Sundays!

Watercolor Painting Class with Mel Jackson

Third Course

Mel Jackson has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and has been teaching both public and private classes for decades. He is currently teaching a class to the homeless held at the shelter and guiding them how to express their own interpretations of life through watercolor.

Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or interested in advancing your watercolor skills, come and join in on the fun. Let your inner wisdom, and creativity, shine through in this unique form of self-expression.

Please bring a palette of watercolor paints, watercolor paper or canvas, brushes, and a notebook and pen for taking notes.

Shasta County’s Klezmer Ensemble: “Sheine Nechome” (pronounced Shayna Neshama) Sheine Nechome means beautiful soul in Yiddish. They are the far north states only group performing Klezmer music, which is traditional music from old Jewish settlements of the late 1800’s in eastern and central Europe, Yiddish theater favorites from the early 1900’s, Ashkenazi classics, and contemporary pieces in the Klezmer style. The music gives cultural insight into the Ashkenazi Jewish community and family life from well over a hundred years ago.

Much of Klezmer, being dance-oriented, was originally played at weddings and other celebrations. With the addition of lyrical theater pieces, you can hear that the music gives cultural insight into Ashkenazi Jewish community and family life in those days and embodies both humor and heart. As many early Klezmer players were traveling minstrels, you may hear musical influences from neighboring geographical areas beyond eastern and central Europe
