New Member's Meeting
Sunday, September 5, 2010, 11:45 AM
If you love the Center for Spiritual Living and want to stand in deep support of our efforts, we invite you to become a member of our Center. Members of the Center commit to support the Center with their time – attending on Sundays as often as possible; their talent – volunteering a minimum one hour per month in some way when possible and their treasure – giving financially as tithes or pledges. These three gifts are like refreshing rain to our community, bringing vital energy and love into a deep expression. Revs. Judith Churchman and Bob Luckin, the Co-Pastors of the Center, will be present to provide information and answer questions. The meeting will take place in the Sanctuary right after the 10:30 AM Service.

Parking Lot Sale
Friday, September 10, 2010, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Saturday, September 11, 2010, 7:00 AM - 1:00 PM
We are gearing up for our once-a-year fund raising event, the Parking Lot Sale, and as always we welcome all the assistance you can give to make this a wonderfully successful money maker for our community!
Here’s how you can assist:
• Please donate gently used furniture, baby furniture, patio furniture, antiques, clothing in good repair, housewares, toys, and other household items.
• We will gratefully accept furniture items now as we have access to a storage unit this year thanks to a few of our Center’s members! All donations are welcome the week starting Sunday, September 5th.
• Please check the Parking Lot Sale seva board; you can serve as a captain in a specific area of the sale or volunteer to organize the donations in advance of the sale dates.
• A detailed sign up sheet is now available for shifts and areas of seva. We especially need sales help on the two days of the sale, including strong folks willing to assist with transporting heavy items (with dollies) to people's vehicles.
Shop the sale! Our goal this year is to raise $6,000 or more! We deeply appreciate your help.

ˆBack to TopGrief: The Journey of Healing
Wednesday, September 15, 2010, 7:00 PM
All of us are touched at some time in life by death and significant loss. Navigating the course through grief and learning to live again without our beloved other or the change that has occurred in life can be daunting and overwhelming. The journey of healing leads us into the dark hallways of denial, bargaining, anger, depression and finally at acceptance where we learn to come to terms with life without our sacred other, whether it be a parent, sibling, spouse or friend.
“Grief: The Journey of Healing” is an evening of remembering our beloved other, reflecting upon the life shared, coping with significant loss and the journey of healing while allowing ourselves the space and support to express our grief and loss through contemplation, reflection, music, silence and ritual. Download the flyer.
Mercy Hospice and Lynn E. Fritz, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, are collaborating to offer this evening for all those grieving the loss of a loved one. Join Lynn E. Fritz, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and co-presenters Emily Sawyer, Mercy Hospice Supervisor Volunteer and Bereavement Programs and Sue MillerBorn, Registered Nurse and Certified Yoga Teacher on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 7-8:30 PM. ˆBack to TopInternational Day of Peace
Tuesday, September 21, 2009, 7:00 PM
“The United Nations' International Day of Peace - marked every year on September 21 - is a global holiday when individuals, communities, nations and governments highlight efforts to end conflict and promote peace. This special day was established by a United Nations resolution in 1982. For several years our center has participated in a sacred ceremony to honor Peace Day.
Join Rev. Sue MillerBorn at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 21, 2009, in the Sanctuary to appreciate the global consciousness of peace. The evening will include prayer and song to touch our hearts with an awakened renewal of knowing that Peace Prevails on Earth.
ˆBack to TopLabyrinth Dedication and Funding Request
Friday, September 24, 2010, 7:30 PM
The Center's long-time dream and vision for a labyrinth is scheduled to be completed for the community dedication on Friday, September 24, 2010, at 7:30 PM. If you would like to financially support the Labyrinth, your contribution to the Center’s Labyrinth fund is tax deductible and you will be provided a certificate prepared by the landscape committee. Our goal is to raise $1,500 in order to cover the final costs for landscaping materials, trees, plants, a stone sign engraved with logo, stone pathway and visitor registration stand. The exciting news is that the Center's labyrinth will be on an international registry and it will be an inspirational draw for many to visit!
If you have any questions please contact Charlie Born by email at charlieborn@sbcglobal.net or by phone at 221-7350. Thank you and we hope to see you at the dedication!

Participants are encouraged to come to Friday evening’s Sabbath Service and Labyrinth dedication as a perfect lead-in to Saturday’s retreat.

ˆBack to TopNew Roof - Ticket & a Tile
Drawing: Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 10:30 AM
It’s no secret our Center needs a new roof! Telltale signs of buckets catching rain water in the spring in the Social Hall, and the ceiling tiles falling down were proof enough. In our sanctuary, the two rooms on the northern side have leaked rain into the walls, with some wood rot damage at the edge of the roof. Repair is already underway. The ceiling has been repaired in the Social Hall, thanks to Dave Forseth, Seva Captain of the Building Maintenance Team. The problem drain in the wall outside the Social Hall is to be repaired this week (July 18th – 24th).
Our wonderful leadership team devised a plan to raise the money to replace the roof of the sanctuary at our meeting on Saturday, July 17, 2010. We will raise $25,000 by selling 500 tickets for $50.00 each. On Sunday, September 26, 2010, we will have a drawing at the 10:30 AM service, and one very fortunate winner will receive 10% of what we have collected, up to $2,500.00. The more tickets you buy, the greater your chance to have the winning ticket! Tickets will be made available every Sunday at the back of the sanctuary or during the week in the office. Let’s see how fast we can sell these 500 tickets! Offer them to friends and family. Everyone loves a chance to win. We have just two months to raise the money so we can have a new roof before the rain begins.
ˆBack to Top"Heart of a Woman" - Women's Retreat
October 15 - 17, 2010
Rev. Dr. Andrea Asebedo and Rev. Sue MillerBorn are again offering a spectacular women’s retreat in one of the lovliest settings in our area – the all-green Gaia Hotel!
This year our theme “Heart of a Woman” will take us on a journey into the inner spaces of our knowing, bringing fresh insight and clarity to our spiritual path. This year our teachers will be using wisdom from the Hopi elders as well as their own understanding to create a very delightful and deep exploration of the heart. Retreats always include yoga, meditation, personal growth workshops, quiet times, sharing, and organic meals in the beautiful setting of the grounds of Gaia.
Because we are again local, women have the choice to stay on site at the hotel or return home every evening. We have been given a considerable discount by the hotel for those who would like to stay. But whether women choose to stay or go home every night, the retreat begins at 5:00 PM on Friday, October 15 and ends on Sunday, October 17 around 3:00 PM. Registration information is available now and we encourage women to invite their friends!

"Finding Your Way Home" ~
Seminar / Workshop with Jonathan Young
Sunday, November 14, 2010 at 1:00 to 4:00 PM
Bring a friend with you to hear Jonathan speak at both services (9:00 and 10:30 AM) on Sunday, November 14, 2010, about “Wisdom from Fairy Tales.” Then, join Jonathan at another of his fabulous seminar/workshops called “Finding Your Way Home” at 1:00 PM that same afternoon. From the realms of magic and dream come tales of wonder. This seminar enters the mythic imagination to explore the journey toward wholeness.
Surprising guidance can be drawn from stories about finding ourselves in unfamiliar experiences. We will discuss Hansel & Gretel and Little Red Riding Hood to see how such initiatory adventures can help in our quests. In a spirit of play, we will follow these enchanting tales to learn more about the lessons of the forest journeys. Mythic stories can teach us about the riches of the inner life. Characters from folklore and mythology can reveal the patterns in our own lives and connect us with dimensions beyond ordinary experience. The key is in the psychological symbolism of the tales. For example, we will take a close look at the many meanings of a visit to the wise old woman of the woods.
Jonathan Young, PhD, is a psychologist (PSY10231) who assisted Joseph Campbell at seminars and served as founding curator of the Joseph Campbell Archives and Library. As a professor, Dr. Young created and chaired a doctoral level department of mythological studies. His books and articles focus on personal mythology. Dr. Young currently teaches symbolism at universities and consults with organization leaders and creative artists.
Presenter: Jonathan Young
Cost: $25 per Person for Attendance;
$10 additional per Person for 3 CEUs (MFTs, LCSWs, RNs)
